Hallway Runner Rugs
an interior passage or corridor onto which rooms open; "the elevators were at the end of the hall"
In architecture, a hall is fundamentally a relatively large space enclosed by a roof and walls. In the Iron Age, a mead hall was such a simple building and was the residence of a lord and his retainers.

A horse that runs in a particular race
smuggler: someone who imports or exports without paying duties
a person who is employed to deliver messages or documents; "he sent a runner over with the contract"
A person who runs, esp. in a specified way
A person who runs competitively as a sport or hobby
someone who travels on foot by running
A floor covering of shaggy or woven material, typically not extending over the entire floor
A small carpet woven in a pattern of colors, typically by hand in a traditional style
A thick woolen coverlet or wrap, used esp. when traveling
(rug) floor covering consisting of a piece of thick heavy fabric (usually with nap or pile)
(Rug (animal covering)) A rug (UK), blanket(Equine and other livestock, US), or coat (canine and other companion animals, US) is a covering or garment made by humans to protect their pets from the elements, as in a horse rug or dog coat.

Colorful, modern, eclectic: Ideas for the hallway, from Elle Decor
In the entry hall of rug purveyor Stephanie Odegards Manhattan apartment, a colorful Odegard runner in a pattern called Hallo Metok leads past a custom bamboo display cabinet by Federico de Vera (www.deveraobjects.com) and an antique Thonet table. The carved marble panel set into the coffered ceiling shields a light source above.

What? The Rug Was Like This!
Only days after I had put a new sticky carpet pad beneath this hallway runner my cat Radar managed to pile it up in a heap. This happens frequently during the late-night madness when the cats tear around the condo playing with toys or chasing each other. I'm not sure a carpet pad exists that could hold it in place.
