Decker Boys Meet Wilmette's New Hook & Ladder, February 1962
Howard S. Decker (left), and Bruce Decker--sons of then Village President Howard C. Decker--join Fire Chief Fred Behrendt for a look at the brand new hook and ladder truck, known as "204." Photo ran in the February 8, 1962 edition of Wilmette Life. The story provided the following details: The engine cost $56,970 and included a 100-foot hydraulically operated aerial ladder on a revolving stand, and a 300 gallon engine water tank. Wilmette voters provided funds in the spring of 1961 when they voted overwhelmingly for a $300,000 bond levy. "It's the most versatile piece of equipment we own," said Fred Behrendt. The engine was constructed by the Seagraves Corporation.
