Stock seat vs. new SDG tall seat
I bought a new seat for the XR650R because the stock one felt like riding a 2x4. This one seems to have different padding, but only time in the saddle will tell if it actually is better than the stock seat. One thing I don't like is the fit (see wrinkles) but since it had a disclaimer to not use with fuel tanks other than stock, I guess that's my problem to deal with. Maybe they'll get flattened out after the material stretches/loosens.
Leather - Solo Seat
The seat pan is in metal, then I added and shaped the padding which is glued on the seat pan.. then I glued the leather to the padding after stretching the leather to the right shape to get it as smooth as possible. After that I bolted the leather to the seat pan underneath and added a piece of strong wool to cover the bolts and folds..
