The burgundy car is my 1973 Alfa Romeo Berlina, a nifty little four-door sedan with an all-aluminum two-liter twin-cam engine, sequential multipoint fuel injection, disc brakes on all four wheels, a five-speed transmission, and comfortable seating for four adults -- built in 1973, from a design introduced in 1968, continually refined from the basic components as used since 1953.

The blue one, of course, has all that, plus a turbo, AWD, and another 100+ horsepower, even before we did the ECU, inlet and exhaust mods. What's really amazing is that the ECU reflash alone on the Subaruwhich took 15 minutes with a laptop, followed by a couple of test drivesnetted about the same increase in power as a pair of hot cams, head work, big valves, a race fuel injection pump, and high-compression pistons would on the Alfa. And where the Alfa's mods would take about four thousand dollars and every weekend of my life for several months, the Subie's $600 reflash was about as difficult to install as a browser plugin. Isn't technology wonderful?

I just love seeing both cars covered in birch leaves, though. They're Subaru WRT Yellow... which looks awesome on the burgundy Alfa too.

I'm sure Jr. will be sporting this look a lot this winter :)
