Brass Valve Stem
- A valve stem is a self-contained valve which opens to admit gas to a chamber (such as air to inflate a tire), and is then automatically closed and kept sealed by the pressure in the chamber, or a spring, or both, to prevent the gas from escaping.
- A poppet valve is a valve consisting of a hole, usually round or oval, and a tapered plug, usually a disk shape on the end of a shaft also called a valve stem. The shaft guides the plug portion by sliding through a valve guide.
- A valve is a device that regulates the flow of a fluid (gases, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. Valves are technically pipe fittings, but are usually discussed as a separate category.

Temsah Wheat
After acquiring my new EF 50mm f/1.4, I decided to play around with the depth of field ranges one could achieve on an APS-C sensor at f/1.4. Pictured here is an Egpytian Hookah Stem sold in the US as the Temsah Wheat. The hose port and the purge valves can bee seen ot of focus in the top of the lower third of this photo.
