New Orleans - French Quarter: Lucky Dogs
Lucky Dogs, the world-famous hot dog vendor and French Quarter fixture that has sold over 21 million hot dogs in the last 50 years, dates back to shortly after World War II with brothers Stephen and Erasmus. By 1949, the brothers decided to market the popular invention, franchising carts around town. By 1952 they gave up on the franchising idea and in 1970 sold the business to Doug Talbot and Peter Briant. Lucky Dogs were fictionalized in Peter Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces, as Paradise Vendors, who hired Ignatius J. Reilly.

Lucky Dog hot dog stand
One of the many franchised Lucky Dogs street vendors in New Orleans. These are the best hot dogs I've ever had next to Yankee Stadium's hot dogs.
