Baghdad Sunrise over Camp Liberty, Iraq.
I decided initially not to take a nice SLR camera to Iraq for fear of breaking such a fine piece of equipment. During the first half of my deployment I deferred to using my point and shoot camera. When I went back to the states on leave I bought a Canon Rebel XTI camera, and brought it with me back to Baghdad. This photograph was the first image I took after returning back to Iraq.. I was standing on top of my HMMWV which was parked outside of our company TOC (tactical operations center) as the sun began to rise over Camp Liberty. Before each mission we would load up our vehicles with crew served weapons, load fills into our radios, fill the coolers with ice, as well as grab rip its, Gatorade and water from the MRE trailer. Once loaded up the squad would then head to the 18th MP Brigade's motor pool to pick up our pax and terps (interpreters) for the mission.
