A freezer with a hinged lid that opens from the top, rather than a front-opening door
A model of freezer in which the door is located on top, like a lid. Chest freezers generally offer more storage space and use energy more efficiently.
(of an animal) Bred for or used in experiments in laboratories
A laboratory (informally, lab) is a facility that provides controlled conditions in which scientific research, experiments, and measurement may be performed.
A room or building equipped for scientific experiments, research, or teaching, or for the manufacture of drugs or chemicals
lab: a workplace for the conduct of scientific research
testing ground: a region resembling a laboratory inasmuch as it offers opportunities for observation and practice and experimentation; "the new nation is a testing ground for socioeconomic theories"; "Pakistan is a laboratory for studying the use of American troops to combat terrorism"

Today saw the (timely) death of our old chest freezer, which had been a member of the Percival household for the best part of 20 years. This thing was knackered, yet it still kept soldiering on.
The lid was broken, though not quite as bad as it would appear in these photos. Unfortunately, the mould down the sides, and on top, is real. The seals (and one of the hinges) died many years ago, meaning the sides and lid, always had some sort of condensation on top. Needless to say, this also caused a huge amound of ice inside, in fact, it got so bad at one point, you couldn't even close the lid.
Its death knell came on Thursday, July 1st, when we realised that new chest freezers weren't as expensive as we once thought.
Chest Freezer
Yup...another shot of the Chest Freezer (I took so many for the listing on craigslist at the time)
