Update 7.30am
Managed to contact my neighbours. They have lost electricity, but flood water didn't penetrate into our street, so our house is good, at the moment.
Thursday 7am
We woke at first light, and looking down to the flooded area 300m away from our elevated temporary home, we were surprised that the level of water that had been there since we arrived, not gone up much.
Our emergency electricity came on at 6am and we were able to get the TV to get updates.
The 4am peak was about 4.5m, lower than the 5.2m at the last forecast yesterday.
Rumblemumbles boss lives in an apartment not too far from us, and he sent an SMS text message to her this morning saying while there was a lot of flood water between he and where our house is, it wasn't as bad as expected.
7am Thursday. 3hrs after the first forecast peak, and the next forecast peak will be 4pm.
We are ok with Elisha, occasional electricity, and enough food, but limited refrigeration space so food we brought in coolers will probably start deteriorating today. There are no shops to replenish, but we are ok at the moment.
The flood peak this morning was 4.5m down from the adjusted forecast of 5.2, which is good news. Another sunny day and no rain, so that helps.
The big dam is in a position to reduce the spillway release which all helps too.
Elisha has a friend near us who has passed the house last night and says it looked ok then.
Elishas boss lives in an apartment next to the river, and he sent an SMS to her saying while there is a lot of flooding in the our area, it was not as bad as forecast.
I have been unable to contact my neighbour further up my street and slightly higher who has stayed in his house, and he would be my best source of feedback.
We only have mobiles to use, and the networks have been overloaded and fragile, so communication has been a problem. It works sometimes.
Many roads are closed making travel throughout the city almost impossible, and there would be no likelyhood of being ablt to reach our house today, and depending on how quickly it drops, possibly not for 2-3 days.
This house is about 50m from the river edge, and maybe 300m from our house. I took this late in the day before we evacuated. He had a landscape supplier dump a truckload of sand on his driveway and he had a pile of bags, and neighbours and friends shovelling. He did a good job at the front, but would also have had a lof of sliding doors to do as well to make it effective.
I am so moved at the thoughts and wishes expressed here on my Flickr stream. I keep posting as well as I can because so many of you are wondering how we are.
I took quite a few photos yesterday with my Canon, but left the camera at the house, so can't download them to the PC.
So, fingers crossed, we may have just escaped water in the house, but not sure. There is still another expected peak at 4pm probably at high tide.
Having said all of the above, Brisbane has been devastated and the TV images are distressing, and there are many people much worse off than us.
Coolers
New coolers are now located here. Soon they will have some friends inside of them.
