The most hated book at school - The Punishment book
A surviving school punishment book. How many children at this junior school grew up hating the headmaster that had caned many of them for such minor matters.
A crime once found out was soon over.
Were three strokes of the cane better than 300 lines?
It might make you look strong if you could take the cane if front of your friends without crying, but for me it always ended in tears.

At my junior schools, I never got to see what was written the punishment books during the time I was there, so never knew how many of my friends were worse behaved than I was.
At my last senior school, there was the ritual of personally collecting the punishment book and the cane from the headmasters office if a master wanted to cane you.
The one occasion at that schoool (I was only there for one year), that I was told to fetch the cane and the book by a master who wanted to cane me, when I went to get it from the headmaster, it was already out somewhere else in the school. I returned to my form, my punishment was reduced to extra written work.
I managed to complete my senior education without once been caned, unlike my junior schools where it had been a regular event.
