stopped in our tracks...
Black Hills National Forest, South Dakota
we sat at the campsite earlier that morning, all geared up and watching the sky deliver some nasty looking "super cels" of storm clouds, then the big pockets of blue sky would appear, "should we? no, lets wait a bit more" helmets on, helmets off,, helmets on, helmets off... finally on the third try we just went for it. here we are about an hour later seeking shelter under the canopy of these pines, after about an hour we were able to take off again into bright sun its all part of the fun though.. the smell of wet rocks and pine needles is intoxicating.
my husbands' been comming to this area of the Black Hills for many years and knows alot of the trails, which ones are good for different riding levels ect.. I do well on the intermediate ones, beyond that, I have no interest in climbing straight up a cliff ect... I like a little challenge, but its the scenic cruise through the mountains' forests and valleys that I really enjoy. up and down rocky hills weaving through gigantic pine trees and crossing through swollen creeks, then up a path along high ridges that look over the tops of the trees, then back down into vast meadows, passing by old and new homesteads and ranches. I don't carry my camera on the motorcycle but luckily there are some who ride quads and I can pack my camera on one of those, still, getting photos of some of the most beautiful places is minimal, we make just a few stops of any length of time. I've riden motorcycles a little bit here and there since my teens, this is my second year riding the Hills, quite a different experience....I thank my hubb for getting me out here finally :)
shelter
This shelter was built by the motorcycle taxi drivers on my street. I think it is interesting to see some of its changes over the years.
