Driving the buggy home after church
Shoes off, this Amish woman's foot looks a little cooler sitting on the family's horse buggy on this 97 degree Sunday afternoon. That high temperature does not including the high humidity. Dressed up for church, the little boy has managed to take his hat off. His sister's ruddy face show signs of the sun.

The Amish do not believe in using modern conveniences. No automobiles. No air conditioning. No electric fan. For this buttoned-up family, there is not a hand fan, umbrella or even a buggy canopy to stop the sun. Despite the heat, there are a few comforts - family, the slight wind from moving down the road, and shaded glasses for such a bright day.
