County Shutters

Experimental light work during the Shutter Stroll.
Taken during the October 2008 "Spooktacular Shutter Stroll" at Rye Preserve in Manatee County, Florida. During this FREE nature photography class, participants hiked through the Rye Woods to the Rye Family Cemetery. The purpose of this Shutter Stroll was to not only provide participants with the opportunity to shoot in a historical setting but also to work with different forms of lighting to create rather spooky effects.
After discussing the etiquette of shooting in historically sensitive areas, we then covered tips for nightime and sunset photography. Participants entered the small pioneer cemetery to take photos and spent a great deal of time creating some truly interesting pieces. Different types of lighting were employed during the shoot and participants experimented with long exposure settings, filters, and lighting sources (including blacklights, glowsticks, and UV lights). Additional still life items, such as pumpkins, were also provided for program participants to practice with. The results of the shoot are presented in this gallery - all photographs are property of the original photographer and may not be used without permission.
