    photochromic
  • Photochromism is the reversible transformation of a chemical species between two forms by the absorption of electromagnetic radiation, where the two forms have different absorption spectra. Trivially, this can be described as a reversible change of colour upon exposure to light.

  • Able to change lens color or darkness/density depending upon the degree of exposure to light.

  • (of a substance) Undergoing a reversible change in color or shade when exposed to light of a particular frequency or intensity

  • (Photochromics) Glazing with the optical properties that change in response to the amount of incident light.

    sunglasses
  • Glasses tinted to protect the eyes from sunlight or glare

  • spectacles that are darkened or polarized to protect the eyes from the glare of the sun; "he was wearing a pair of mirrored shades"

  • (sunglass) a convex lens that focuses the rays of the sun; used to start a fire

  • Sunglasses or sun glasses are a form of protective eyewear designed primarily to prevent bright Sun light and high-energy visible light from damaging or discomforting the eyes.

    glacier
  • a slowly moving mass of ice

  • A glacier (pronounced or) is a persistent body of ice that flows and originates on land. Evidence of glacier flow is exhibited by glacier features such as crevasses.

  • Glacier (styled as GLACIER) is a Visual kei rock band from Okinawa, Japan. Makoto, Nao and Aki have been friends since they were elementary schoolchildren. The three members started the band in Okinawa.

  • A slowly moving mass or river of ice formed by the accumulation and compaction of snow on mountains or near the poles

    nomad
  • Nomadic people (???????, nomades, "those who let pasture herds"), commonly known as itinerants in modern-day contexts, are communities of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. There are an estimated 30-40 million nomads in the world.

  • a member of a people who have no permanent home but move about according to the seasons

  • A member of a people having no permanent abode, and who travel from place to place to find fresh pasture for their livestock

  • A person who does not stay long in the same place; a wanderer

  • NOMAD was founded in 2002 as an independent formation and registered as association in 2006. It targets to produce and experiment new patterns in the digital art sphere by using various lenses of other disciplines.

Flying over a glacier in Alaska

Flying over a glacier in Alaska

Another one from the Alaska trip in June.

Flying back to Kodiak Island from Katmai (where we went to observe the great grizzly bears) the pilot started flying up to the top of the near mountains and then went down flying over the glacier up to the end, near the beach. Really incredible.

This is not an HDR photo.

No HDR.

entering Blackcomb Glacier...

entering Blackcomb Glacier...

This photo was taken at the top of the Horstman Glacier, not far from the T-Bar top station, on the dividing ridge between the Horstman and Blackcomb Glacier valleys. Photo taken Easter long weekend 2006.

Why not join the mile down club?
The elevation here is about 2245 metres (7347 feet) above sea level. Whistler village in the valley below is only at 640 metres (2100 feet). So skiing peak to valley is 1.6 km vertical (not quite a mile, 99%)

(March /April 2006)
