Licks & Brains Big Band
Licks & Brains is a new vibrant project in the Dutch NuJazz scene combining a full big band line-up with modern jazz sounds and club dance grooves. Band director is saxophone player Rolf Delfos, renowned front man of successful jazz bands such as the Houdini’s, Jazzinvaders, and the Auratones. Licks & Brains released their debut ‘Psychopompus’ in 2009 and has recently recorded their second album ‘the Road’, which features the talented Bart Wirtz (Young Sinatra’s, Monsieur Dubois) on alto sax and Thelonious Monk award winner Ilja Reijngoud on trombone. This new release celebrates the old skool funk of Quincy Jones and James Brown, as well as the new rare grooves from Monsieur Dubois and the Auratones. All tracks are arranged by (young) Dutch arrangers in the unique Licks & Brains style, best described as ‘Danceable NuJazz XXL’.
