16-09-09 - Le Gwo Ka (ou gros tambour) est une expression musicale, d’origine africaine, qui a vu le jour dans les souffrances de l’esclavage. Son nom est donne a la danse et a l'instrument qui l'accompagne.
Le Gwo Ka est un tambour a membrane en peau de chevre dont le corps est constitue par un de ces barils dans lesquels on acheminait les viandes salees vers les Antilles.
C'est une expression musicale, d’origine africaine, qui a vu le jour a l'epoque de l’esclavage.
C'est un instrument de percussion qui se joue avec les mains, on l'utilise dans la musique traditionnelle guadeloupeenne. Il y a 7 rythmes basiques de gwoka: Kaladja, Mennde, Lewoz, Padjanbel, Woule, Graj, Toumblak.
Le gwo ka se caracterise par le fait que c'est le musicien (le marqueur) qui suit le danseur.
Le "boula" est le tambour rytmique d’accompagnement du gwo ka d'une sonorite plus grave que le tambour soliste ka. Le boula est fabrique avec la peau d'un cabri male. Il joue le rythme central. Le plus petit : le markeur ou "make" marque la melodie.
