    secondary air
  • The remaining air needed for complete combustion besides primary air. This is the air surrounding the flames outside the burner ports.

  • In some exhaust emission control systems, e.g., thermal reactor or two-bed converter, secondary (outside) air is added to the exhaust to ensure sufficient supply of oxygen to promote oxidation of HC and CO, thus converting these pollutants into harmless water vapor and carbon dioxide.

  • In fuel burning kilns, air which enters kiln after initial combustion and feeds flames as they leave primary combustion source.  In gas kiln, secondary air enters burner port around burner-tip.

    pump
  • deliver forth; "pump bullets into the dummy"

  • An instance of moving something or being moved by or as if by such a machine

  • A mechanical device using suction or pressure to raise or move liquids, compress gases, or force air into inflatable objects such as tires

  • a mechanical device that moves fluid or gas by pressure or suction

  • operate like a pump; move up and down, like a handle or a pedal; "pump the gas pedal"

  • An active transport mechanism in living cells by which specific ions are moved through the cell membrane against a concentration gradient

    e36
  • E36 (or E 36) may refer to: *The BMW E36 automobile platform *The European route E36 connecting Berlin to Boleslawiec *The Federal Aviation Administration airport code of Georgetown Airport (California)

In 1982 McDonnell Douglas set out to modify its TF-15A demonstrator as a prototype of what it termed the 'Strike Eagle'. The company had recognized that the USAF would need a replacement for its General Dynamics F-111 strike aircraft in the near-to-midterm, and invested its own money in an effort to provide that replacement. The Eagle was originally built with a secondary air-to-ground capability, but with few units trained in the 'mud moving' role with the aircraft, its primary air-to-air role soon becoming its only duty in service. However, the airframe had much attack attack potential, with the promise of considerable load-carrying capability, allied to airframe large enough to accommodate a range of new systems.

The new Eagle variant boasted a powerful APG-70 radar, an AN/AVQ-26 Pave Track targeting pod, a strengthened airframe and a common engine bays for either the Pratt & Whitney F100 or General Electric F110 turbofan. Such were the obvious qualities of the new machine that it was ordered into production in 1984, for the first delivery to the USAF on 11 December 1986. The service was scheduled to receive the 237th and last of its F-15E Eagles in 2003.
