Dead Vlei
This is a view of Dead Vlei in the Namib desert at sunset from my recent trip to Namibia. The trip was my first opportunity to use my new 5D MkII in earnest.
For processing, I converted the raw file to a 16-bit tiff using Canon Digital Photo Professional (which took about an hour), then processed in Photoshop (very old version, 6). To handle these files properly I see that I really need to buy a new computer and an updated version of Photoshop!
I was tempted here to crop the empty left side of the picture to make a 5:4 format but I liked the lighter foreground line moving in from the corner, so I left it.
I frequently noticed significant vignetting at 17 mm with the 17-40 lens. Here I've corrected it manually but I see that the MkII has a function to correct falloff in peripheral image illumination. Has anyone had similar problems and/or tried using this function?

Update: This one was converted with Breeze Browser Pro 1.4. Take a look at the Exif info. Its huge.

This is not only to show the world that I already bought the new Harry Potter book but also to test different ways of converting my 350D photos from RAW to jpg. In this experiment I've used Canon Digital Photo Professional (last update), Adobe Lightroom and the recently updated Adobe Camera Raw from within Adobe CS3 Bridge. Conclusion, although the clumsy interface and the huge files that generate I think I do prefer DPP results.
You can identify the software used in the file name (last characters). All the three of them were left with the default settings only changing DPI in DPP so that it could be at 240 like the other two.
