Glowing Rocks, Flowing Water (4x5 Pinhole Photograph)

Glowing Rocks, Flowing Water (4x5 Pinhole Photograph)

This is a 2 minute color (Fuji Pro 160) 4x5 pinhole photograph of colorfully glowing rocks and a stream of water in the Spruce Knob area of the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia (recorded at f/138). In this photo, the camera was perched atop a small rock in the stream (lower right), the water (with reflections) occupies the lower third of the frame), and a tall, curved (as though the stream has scooped deeply into the rock over the years) wall of rock, glowing with reflected sunshine from the water, arches overhead.

The extreme wide-angle view, and the level of detail in the scene, makes this photograph a kind of "abstract view" of rocks and water.

My Alpha and Omega (4x5 Pinhole Photograph)

My Alpha and Omega (4x5 Pinhole Photograph)

This is a 40 second pinhole camera exposure, composed of two separate 20 second exposures. For the first twenty seconds, I was in the frame, kissing my beautiful wife. I'm standing on the right, with my beard partially visible (I was much closer to the pinhole, so I appear larger in the photo). For the second half of the exposure, we were absent from the frame. We were standing for this photo just outside the east end of the Henryton Railroad Tunnel in Marriottsville, MD. Recorded at f/138 on Kodak TMAX-400 4x5 b/w film. I worked the shutter for both exposures.
