Survive.
One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.
Please, please, please be aware. Take good care of your boobies! Give yourself a breast exam. Notice something weird going on with the girls? Ask your doctor. If you're due for one, get a mammogram. Breast cancer awareness is important every day, not just this week. Care about breast cancer awareness EVERY month, not just in October.
I got sick, so I wasn't able to keep up with an entire week of Boobie-thon photos, but four days of support is better than none!
It's been a rough week to be Xelia. Val and I ended up going to Disneyland, and halfway through I got really sick. She ended up driving me back to San Diego with a fever of 101. Luckily we went on all the good rides as soon as the park opened since we got there early. The next day I somehow got it in my head that I was okay enough to go to work, and got sicker. On my way to my car after work I dodged a woman with a stroller and smacked into a wall in the parking structure. A bottle of Gatorade broke in my bag (a Tokidoki Paradiso Zucca) and soaked through everything, including the iPod that I've had for less than a year. I can't afford to keep replacing my shit. I'm so frustrated. I would really like a new iPod. Anybody want to buy one of my Tokidokis to help me pay for one? That'd be swell.
13-Year Cicada
The shell of the final nymph of a 13-year cicada (a part of the Great Southern Brood). Every 13 years the adults emerge from the nymphs that had spent 13 years feeding on roots about 1 foot deep in the ground. The recently emerged adults mate and the female cuts slits in the branches of trees and lays about 100 eggs -- both adults are dead within two weeks after emergence. When the eggs hatch (within a few weeks) the larva fall to the ground and burrow to a depth of several inches in the soil and begin feeding on roots and pupating. Over the next 13 years they pupate five times and emerge again to start the live cycle over again. The last emergence was in 1998, and I remember it well....
