These sure are some messy, scraggly boards. I'm anxious to see how they clean up when I go to mill them up and use them for something. I never checked their moisture content (I have a digital, 2-pin meter), but I'm sure it's not really at a useful stage, even though the logs have been left out in the sun for a couple of years. It takes a year of air-drying per inch of thickness, and this log chunk was more than a foot in all directions.
It's not a crazy texture, not a burl, nor the wild look of something like cocobolo, but I think the waxed ends here give a peek into the grain below, and show that it could polish up to be some very lovely, simply-grained wood, with a little bit of iridescent shimmer.
Cutting board dryer
So happy with my new "cutting board holder". :-)
The cutting board can dry evenly after cleaning, not standing in the dripping water.
I love everything having its own place.
