Evil dirty butt bunny

Evil dirty butt bunny

She's gone totally out of control thanks to my spoiling her, and partly due to her inherited characteristics from her mother.

She doesn't let me clean out her clogged scent gland! Have been trying for more than two weeks, and am getting increasingly desperate. Some days I just manage to hold her for about five seconds, or long enough for me to spread her legs apart a little, or long enough to spread her legs and her anal scent glands, and if there's some miracle, I'd be able to then swab her with a cotton wool bud twice.

There's only one chance per day, since if she knows I'm trying to clean out her glands she'd be thumping and totally angry at me. I've had my chin kicked, chest and boob bitten, and snorted at.

Argh. It's not just that she smells, but it seems like when her scent gland is clogged, she refuses to clean her butt properly either! That of course results in a stinky and wet butt. :|

Tried cleaning the gland with wet tissue, and a few butt baths too. Baths are almost as hard as cleaning the scent gland though, and she hates it equally.

So what have I resorted to?

Finally locked her up in her cage, and letting her out for a few hours at night (she becomes more well behaved like that, it seems). Her cage is also lined with either a towel or almost half a roll of toilet paper to absorb whatever pee's on her butt. I've made a few adjustments on her litter tray arrangement: changed the bedding and put in a generous layer of hay on top (doesn't work for her). In utter desperation, I've started trimming the soiled and matted fur on her butt -- sneakily of course, since the girl doesn't like to have people touching her butt.

So yeah. I'm utterly desperate. How do you clean out the scent gland of a ridiculously naughty bunny who can't be tranced?

I tried bringing her to a groomer before some time ago. Although the groomer seems to be able to control her (supposedly because she knows she's a stranger, and not her usual slave), I could see it in her eyes then that she absolutely hated and was utterly miserable the whole time. She really hates to be cradled for an extended period of time.

It used to be easier to clean her anal scent glands when she still had some fear of heights. I could do it when we were seated on a chair or sofa. That girl's all fearless now, and totally spoilt.

So yeah. :| It's going to be a trip to the vet tomorrow (the office we go to isn't open today). Our handy combiderm is missing too.

Ahh, I absolutely love feisty and naughty bunnies...just that it totally exasperates me when I can't clean her butt!

[It is important that her scent gland gets cleaned out because when it's clogged, she doesn't clean her own butt. She doesn't let me help her with her butt, so it often leads to pee stained fur, and sometimes matted fur coupled with urine scald. ]

Bucky sleeping (closer)

Bucky sleeping (closer)

Bucky entered my life on 30th April 2005. He is my little darling baby boy and I hope we will have many, many more healthy & happy years together! I got him together with an ex-boyfriend and initially I plan to just keep him for the first few days and then he'd live with my ex.

Well, needless to say after having him around for the few days, I knew I could never give him up!! He has enlightened me to the meaning of selflessness and how parents love their children unconditionally. I find myself cleaning up after him, cleaning his house, grooming him, preparing his diet, making sure I come back in time to give him his dinner, enough play time ,etc - without having any grudges or impatience or feel like I have to do it.

Before having Bucky, I could never have imagine bonding with a rabbit - a dog or cat yes, but a rabbit? It is definately one of the most underrated and subtle joys in the world - they are intelligent and have their own unique personality. I feel lucky and grateful to experience this special relationship.
