Being new to modelling I have had to catch up on all teh new tricks since I last made a model way back in my teens. You don't just slap on teh water-slide transfers any more, but use a techniques of glossing and then preping the surface with a special decal softening solution.

The biggest surprise is that for teh glossing stage I was recommended to use a home cleaning product called Pledge Klear - which is actually a floor wax!

You apply a thin layer of Klear - allow it to dry and then apply a solutiona called MicroSet (which prepares the surface and helps bond the decal to the surface).

All this is to ensure a smooth and seamless bond of decal to model. And sure enough you can't see the join once you are done - plus it stops the horrible 'silvering' effect you get if you just throw the transfers onto an unprepared matt pained surface.

I'm quite pleased and impressed with this new tequnique - my decals now look more realistic and painted on.
