25-ish things
Karen tagged me so ...
1, I don't know if I can think of 25 things.
2, I met my OH online even though we lived 20 minutes apart and worked at the same place for the previous 6 years. He is 10 years younger than me; this doesn't seem to matter except that I am appalled he has never seen Mr Benn.
3, I have 3 cats (Gertie, Minnie & Beau). This is the least cat-age for years & years. The most was 5. They used to have long hippy names such as Merlin Yoda Moonbeam and Isolde Tribble Nutkin Stargazer but now I can't be bothered. The dear departed: Tigger, Issy, Merlin, Zetti, Jones, Sido and Daisy.
4, I have 1 dog (Kitty). Puppies are hard work, haha; somehow this was a surprise even though I very clearly remember how much hard work kittens are. I grew up with dogs so had always thought I would revert eventually. I am a hybrid - 70% cat person; 30% dog person.
5, I buy a lot of clothes in autumn I have noticed, intending to adopt a new way of being which always fails (jeans and trainers and/or black always win).
6, I used to keep my crimpers plugged in 24/7 and backcomb my hair but it started to fall out. Since then I wash it just once a week and plait it when it's wet. This seems to stop it going like candyfloss, even though it's dyed regularly.
7, veggie since age 12 but I was 20 before I stopped missing bacon sandwiches.
8, I like facebook only because it means I can keep in touch with old friends without any of the actual hassle of having to regularly meet up with them :O
9, I used to go out 5 nights a week. Now I am hard-pushed to want to go anywhere further than my sofa. I am perfectly happy with this state of affairs.
10, I bought my first Blythe on January 29th, my birthday, a Cinema Princess mini-me. My Blythe hobby has helped me with mild depression which lingered after a load of shit which happened last year. (As has getting a dog so having to get dressed and go for a walk.)
11, I am a shy extrovert. Dorothy Rowe (author) was very helpful about this. My OH is a socially-skilled introvert. I even know a socially-skilled extrovert (her life seems so exhausting to me!). This helped explain a LOT.
12, my default setting is slacker but I fight it - so my house is clean and mostly tidy, and so am I.
13, my mother lives 40 miles away and whilst I love her I find this is an adequate buffer zone of distance to minimise 'differences of opinion' (did you want that there? why is that like that?)
14, I have taken berocca for 18 months. I can't tell if it makes a difference.
15, I love Christmas. I like the run-up better than the actual day: trimming the house (1st December promptly), singing carols, buying food and presents, all that. I am already excited. It bores me when people are negative about christmas. If you don't like the religious connotations at least see it for what it has always been: a festival in the middle of winter designed to see you through to the spring. So your christmas lights keep the darkness at bay and the extra feast keeps the hunger away. Celebrate!
16, contrarily, I detest new year's eve. I find it an arbitary and depressing time, everywhere is packed, or expensive, and everyone is for some reason celebrating the march of time. I would much prefer new year if it were, say, on the last day of March when it would tie in to the turning of the earth.
17, I love to receive postcards and live vicariously.
18, I read a lot. I cannot sleep unless I have read at least a few pages.
19, occasionally I go to a book-signing, eg. I have books signed by Lynn Truss, Nigella Lawson and Hilary Mantel. Nigella said to me 'I love your coat, where is it from?' (leopard vintage) so I replied '?5 from Sheffield 2nd hand market about ten years ago'. She looked slightly stumped as I imagine this is not somewhere she has been.
20, I have hearts all over the place. They seem to proliferate on their own. Also leopard print. And Blythes, obviously.
21, I can get weepy easily at something on TV (at which point I usually thump the sofa, making a cat jump off, and shout "this is STUPID!".. sniffle sniffle). And I cried til I thought I would be sick when the dog died in I Am Legend (sorry, that was a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it). Yet at other times I can utterly lack sympathy for people who appear to be not trying to help themselves but just whining.
22, having said that I am sympathetic with people who get social anxiety cos I get it. I am happier if someone says 'shit I can't do that thing cos I feel scared to death' than someone saying at the last minute 'I have, er, a sore throat .... ?' so both of us know I know it is a fib.
23, since owning a house I now hate many sorts of weather that I used to love. Eg, gales. Now I just think about the roof tiles. I find this dispiriting.
24, I love snow. From indoors.
25, I long to live by the sea. I have begun to realise that some kind of property version of Trinny & Susannah are NOT going to come to me and say ok we found you a house b
