    how to
  • A how-to or a how to is an informal, often short, description of how to accomplish some specific task. A how-to is usually meant to help non-experts, may leave out details that are only important to experts, and may also be greatly simplified from an overall discussion of the topic.

  • Providing detailed and practical advice

  • (How To’s) Multi-Speed Animations

  • Practical advice on a particular subject; that gives advice or instruction on a particular topic

    clean

  • make clean by removing dirt, filth, or unwanted substances from; "Clean the stove!"; "The dentist cleaned my teeth"

  • Make (something or someone) free of dirt, marks, or mess, esp. by washing, wiping, or brushing

  • clean and jerk: a weightlift in which the barbell is lifted to shoulder height and then jerked overhead

  • free from dirt or impurities; or having clean habits; "children with clean shining faces"; "clean white shirts"; "clean dishes"; "a spotlessly clean house"; "cats are clean animals"

  • (bake) cook and make edible by putting in a hot oven; "bake the potatoes"

  • (bread and pastries) cooked by dry heat (as in an oven); "baked goods"

  • (of the sun or other agency) Subject (something) to dry heat, esp. so as to harden it

  • adust: dried out by heat or excessive exposure to sunlight; "a vast desert all adust"; "land lying baked in the heat"; "parched soil"; "the earth was scorched and bare"; "sunbaked salt flats"

  • (of food) Be cooked in such a way

  • Cook (food) by dry heat without direct exposure to a flame, typically in an oven or on a hot surface

Chef's special 4/365

Chef's special 4/365

On the menu tonight, we have some delicious....

This 365 is going to be a massive challenge for me.. I really wanted to do a theme, but its not working out too well. I leave for work when its still dark and by the time I leave work, it almost dark again.. so I'm driving back home today totally consumed about what to shoot for today and a couple of ideas came across.. so got home, got my camera and decided to go to the couple of spots where I wanted to shoot.

Just then, I find out what the wife had prepared for dinner, and all of a sudden, new ideas started forming in my head.. how 'bout this, how 'bout that.. wanted a clean surface, so found a baking sheet... as soon as the lasagna came out of the oven, I poured some extra sauce on it, grated some cheese sprinkled some fresh basil and voila.. it looked kinda good..!!!! To be honest, I surprised myself with the setting. took a few shots, but thought it missed something.. so cut up a slice of the bread and tried again...

Just when I was done, the wife looks and says.. "Where's the wine?" Crap!!! I don't drink wine, so didn't even think about it.. plus, I was really getting hungry.. so, no wine on the menu tonight...!!!!

So, I got saved the last two days by last minute ideas, but how long will it last?

Homemade Neighbourly Biscuits :)

Homemade Neighbourly Biscuits :)

One of my neighbours, Megan, kindly baked me a couple of biscuits (cookies for you Americans out there). I thought I'd take a few minutes before gobbling them up to practice my food photography. Thanks Megan!

Setup: The biscuits are sitting on a plain old piece of A4 paper, which gives a nice, clean, high-key background. White paper can be mighty useful for photography. Not only does it provide a simplifying background for this photo, two other pieces of paper serve an important purpose out of frame. I folded those bits of paper in half lengthwise and placed them in front of the biscuits (roughly at 45 degree angles to the biscuits) to bounce some light back into the front of the biscuits. The main light is provided by a Nikon SB-25 flash around 1/16th power. I love how I can use a flash that is over 15 years old in 2010! (On that note, the 50mm lens I'm using for this photo was first introduced in 1991 and it's one of my favourite lenses). The flash is fired through a 24" square softbox positioned above and to the rear of the biscuits. That light helps accentuate the texture on the top of the biscuits. The flash was triggered by Yong Nuo RF-602s.
