This one is from a while ago, taken with my old iPhone (one more is in the comments section). I was trying to clean/organize my picture files for a couple of days now and it was beyond frustrating. So here is a serious question: how do you file, store, backup your pictures? When I started on flickr, I was using it mainly as a storage. But now I am taking way more pictures and editing them all, which means I am ending up with 5 or more versions for each shot, so uploading all these on flickr is out of question. And I am having trouble deleting any. And while I am filing these by country/event/date, I am still struggling finding things or remembering what I have where.

Backup sucks too. I have Time Machine doing backup automatically, but my first one died unexpectedly. Apple replaced it at no cost, but not the files on it, obviously. Luckily I had them all on my hard drive still. So the lesson is, you have to back up everything in two different places, right? But it is hard to keep track of what I already backed up and what I didn't. Still haven't figured out how to do that.

And do you print any of your shots? I used to print most of my final versions, but now I have hundreds waiting to be printed and it is overwhelming. Also I am not sure I want to print them, but then I kind of do. And today I am having a photo shoot for my friend's kid who turned one year old recently, so I'll end up with hundreds more pictures.

So what do you do?

I walked by a brick wall today. I walk by them often, daily, many times a day, we all do. This wall was being constructed, built while I walked by. I think I had walked by it two or three or four times today. The thought that it looked better then the cinder block wall did cross my mind and I almost walked on. It was then that I saw this gentleman. It wasn't the man himself, the way that he held a cigarette in his mouth or the smile on his face or his clothes, what I noticed was his skill. I just happened by as he was loading his trowel with mortar. I can not explain just how he did this. That trowel was as much an instrument as the trumpet that Winton Marseilles carries. They are both handled with as much care and skill as the other. I was in awe. I watched him place some mortar on the end of a brick after having placed mortar on the unfinished wall. The brick was set in place and the trowel went to work, cleaning, scrapping, tapping... and then the level... I will never look at a brick wall the same again. Oh, and the cigarette.... puts a smile on my face...
