Pago Pago Tsunami - Harbour, People Cleaning up (H 15)
I promised to post photos on the Tsunami damage in American Samoa whose main city is Pago Pago. The disaster happened just one week before we were to arrive there but the ship went anyway and I am glad it did. I post these photos in two batches one after the other because I won't drag this out. I want those who view these photos to remember the Samoan people in both Samoan islands who suffered such loss of life and possessions.
The Samoans are a resourceful people with a widespread deep Christian faith and now they have all been working together to repair their nations (Samoa & American Samoa).
Ruth and I had a driver/guide who is part American and Samoan and she took us to her village where 20 of her friends died and she was very upset by events. Right when we were there the funeral of one of her cousins was underway but it would have been disrespectful to take photos of that, so I did not. I am so glad she shared her experiences with us and I respect her so much. Please keep the Samoan people in your thoughts.
Each photo will be numbered and will cover two areas - The HARBOUR and Bay (first); and the Village of LEONE (second)
PHOTO: HARBOUR - 15 Another view of the harbour foreshore clean up. My camera is level but stuff is leaning to the left.
