Clean Up Registry Files
These files were created for aliens who arrived before 1924, when no arrival record could be found. Registry files contain a certificate of registry, proof of residence, and employment records. These files, dated 1929-1944, can be obtained from the USCIS Genealogy Program.

This is one of the original light fixtures (restored after being left in ruins years ago) in the great hall or Registry Room. The sign in the room said up to 5000 people a day filed through here for two decades.
It's easy to imagine how many eyes turned upward toward these lights (including those of my grandparents and great-grandparents) as they waited to learn their fate.
