This 1868 towered Italianate villa style mansion is now a California State Historic Park that's been restored to near-original condition. It was the home of John and Annie Bidwell, who had many famous visitors including John Muir, Susan B. Anthony, President and Mrs. Hayes, General Sherman, and more.

The house features three stories (due to an intentional trick of perspective, the third story isn't visible from the exterior), 26 rooms, many of the original owners' belongings, and of course, that marvelous tower, which docents say was used by Mrs. Bidwell and her friends who climbed up a steep ladder to get to the top. Through the right hand window on the side of the tower facing most forward in this picture, you can see a diagonal line--that's the tower ladder and how steep it is. Imagine climbing it in a floor length dress and high heels!

Mr. Bidwell began building his house before meeting his future wife, and because of his political aspirations he built it in a grand style befitting the home of a possible future governor. The house had the most modern plumbing and lighting available for its day and even had its own carbide gas generator for the house's lighting needs. It included what was intended to be a third floor ballroom, but regrettably the Bidwells never used it for dancing because Mrs. Bidwell's religion didn't allow it.

Mr. Bidwell died in 1900. His widow lived in the mansion for the rest of her life and she willed it to the Presbyterian church upon her death in 1918.

In 1923, the Chico State Teachers College (later California State University Chico) bought the house and converted it to dormitories for female students. The State of California bought the property in 1964 and began the work of restoring it into what it is today. You can tour the home and learn more about the Bidwells and their daily lives, and can even climb the stairs and visit that "invisible" third floor.

I'm really bad about getting film processed. Eventually I'd love to have one of those Jobo automatic film processors especially for my E-6 stuff. But yeah every time I finish a roll of film I just throw it in this basket on top of my fridge (not the best spot with the heat I know) and they just accumulate until I'm not too lazy to take them all in. I probably make it harder on myself doing it this way.

I dropped off 2 rolls of Kodak Gold 200 35mm at Walmart for 1 hour just so I can scan something tonight and I brought home a grip of envelopes to fill out for the rest of the film I've got. So 11 envelopes being sent out, 2 rolls dropped off, and 2 that are going to the pro-lab for cross processing.

16 total rolls to be coming home in the near future. Gonna be a big Flickr update.
