Death Valley, California
Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, in Death Valley, California. What a wonderful place to visit in the winter. Amazing landscapes everywhare you look. Temperature was in the 60s (15 C). In the summer it gets up to the 130s (54 C). Stayed in Lone Pine and could not get up early enough so when I got to the park it was around 10am, footprints everywhere.
Went by myself, stopped many times, wasn't hurried by anyone, drove down those roads like in the car commercials, had a great time.
Breaking with tradition, this is not an HDR shot. ISO 100, 12mm, f16, 1/125 on tripod. In Photoshop:
- Imagenomic Noiseware on the Landscape setting.
- Curves.
- Slight warming filter except the sky.
- Slight freaky details on the clouds and mud patterns.
Mangrove
Black Mangrove, ~avicennia germinans~,
Mangroves have the ability to filter out salt water to obtain fresh water for their growth, while secreting salt also through their leaves. They exist only in tropical areas, and are a great benefit to coastal areas in protecting the coastline from erosion and storms.
Mangroves provide protected nursery areas for fishes, crustaceans, and shellfish. They also provide food for a multitude of marine species such as snook, snapper, tarpon, jack, sheepshead, red drum, oyster, and shrimp. Florida's important recreational and commercial fisheries would drastically decline without healthy mangrove forests.
