Duck
This is Sabriena's Florida Softshell Turtle (Apalone ferox) sticking his head out of the water. He's getting rather large now (and we hope to christ he's a he, because the males stop growing earlier) his head is approximately 1.25" in diameter - for comparison that white thing next to him is a piece of 2" pipe that makes up part of our homemade aquarium filter.
The refracted light from the sand is making the water look a little yellow, and the stuff sticking to the PVC pipe is sand... his tank's clean... honest. :(
