Collage #2

When I made my design I first got all the images and put them on my collage. Then I organized them mainly using the Principle of design Balance. I incorporated all the elements of design in my collage. I have line behind the bat in the lower right corner to kind of silhouette the bat. I used shape all over, the ball is a shape, Jennie Finch creates a shape, and the show is a shape as well. Form is really shown in the show and in Jennie because you can tell that they are three dimensional. There is a lot of value in this collage. It shows especially in the ball as it gets darker towards the front which also shows movement because it looks like the ball is coming towards you. I also played with value on Jennie, the background and the show using the levels, curves, and balance tools. The way I incorporated color was by sticking to a mainly red, white, and blue color scheme. Also the yellow for the ball but all the colors go with each other. I played with the hue and saturation to make the show a little bluer than it was, then the bat is blue, the girls in the back are red white and blue even though they have a number of different blending modes and filters. I used space by overlapping things as the batting gloves behind the ball and shoe, putting the bat in front of the shoe, and putting Jennie in front of the ball. I think texture is incorporated in all spots of my design because I took images that already had implied texture on them. I also added some texture to the background by adding a noise filter. For the principles of design, I used contrast in the color scheme. I used emphasis by having the text as my focal point and using the rule of thirds. I used balance a lot by putting two tall thin objects on the opposite sides of the design, but not having them symmetrically lined with each other. I think the design is very unified especially by the color scheme. There is no real pattern to my design. However, there is movement in the different layers of the ball. I have eight or more layers that are organized into layer groups to keep it neat. I used layer blending styles to outline the bat with a nice yellow border that I used the eyedropper tool to get it to match the ball. I also used layer blending styles make Jennie stand out against her background and to really accentuate the text. I changed the layer blending mode on a few layers even though it didn’t make a dramatic difference it still helped to enhance my image.

I liked this project because it was a change from the beginning of the year because I was far more familiar with the program and knew a lot more about composition. Overall, I am happy with the way that this collage came out. If I had to do it again, I would probably do more with line but I do like the rhythm of the image now. I learned a lot about the elements and principles of design.
