Renovation of an existing library; including replanning student and staff spaces, custom joinery design and furniture. Budget constraints necessitated the reuse of existing joinery where possible to keep costs down.
The addition of custom designed shrouds to fit the proprietary shelving units helped softened the institutional feel. And we defined the repetition in the heavy exposed structural beams and columns giving us a visual cue to offset the pattern in the floor coverings. We used a mix of three carpet tiles with tonal and textural contrast in large angled fields of colour.
Standing her ground
See, I bought her the cheap (not slip resistant) socks. Then it got cold and she had to wear them, which was fine on the carpet. On the tile and wood, however, she closely resembled Bambi on ice, complete with legs flying in all directions. As is turns out, slippers cost roughly what 2 pairs of skid-free socks do.
