New Toy
I got this Powershot A550 used at Sofmap after they discounted it another 1000 yen. Its a 7 megapixel model, only 1 year old. Total damage was less than 12,000 yen after adding a 2GB SD card.
Its nice to have a digital compact with a viewfinder rather than having to deal with the extra camera shake induced by holding it at arm's length in front of me. Operating with the display off using the viewfinder is also hugely power-efficient - supposedly has a 1000 exposure battery life with the LCD turned off.
I have loaded the CHDK enhanced firmware on it, and it has some nice additional functionality like a shortcut manual focus to hyperfocal distance.

My camera has dust spots. Look at the picture. They are more now. I am really disappointed. I've had this camera since January 8th. That's four months or less. I used the dust removal feature on the camera and the dust spots are still there. What a bummer! I went to the Camera Store and they would have to send it to Mexico city to clean it. Then I went to Liverpool department store and I checked out a new camera. I am going to get a point and shoot Canon Powershot like the one I had and gave to my niece. The salesclerk said she would give me a 15% discount if I get it today. Well, I will get it today!
