I'll be home for Christmas, 100 years later than I thought
This was taken for Active Assignment Weekly for the week of December 21-28: Copycat. The assignment involved finding an Explore picture that inspired you and taking a similar picture.
My personal aesthetic isn't at all like most of the pictures of women my age on Explore, so I took a photo that was meant to look like it was set in the 50's or 60's and moved the concept back about 60 years. The photo I used for inspiration can be found in the comments.
I'm wearing a 90's biking/hunting divided skirt that goes down to just above my ankle and is very full. I've pulled it up and wrapped it around my legs much like the source image did with hers. I'm also wearing spats that I constructed, although by that point they were falling down a bit (they fit somewhat better before I lost 30 pounds). The carpet bag is also a reproduction, but the couch is a real antique (like her suitcase was) which is estimated as coming from the 1840's or 50's based on it's style.
I own a tripod, but not a timer, so my husband kindly helped me take the actual photo, with a lot of direction and after a lot of setup. I did some post processing to modify the levels in the image (specifically to blow out some of the lighter areas to make it look like an old photo) and to add the sepia tone.
