red velvet mite 1.3
here is the new (and i hope final) version of my velvet mite.
i didn't like the previous version much, it didn't look right and was too small to be displayed. also, the paper didn't do it justice, it was so thin the foil reflected my camera flash and basically disabled me to take a nice photo of it.
this version has none of the problems above.
i have used quite interesting paper for it, i made a sandwich of red unryu and red tissue paper at first, and then glued it onto foil with unryu showing. this has shown itself to be probably the best paper i could use for it and it definitely worthed the extra work.
the additional sheet of tissue made it slightly thicker, so it holds the propper shape better and the model isn't so manipulation vulnerable, the tissue (which was more of reddish orange than red) helped to create a more suitable color which is now more vivid than usually, and the paper isn't transparent any more.
also, the CP provided an easy way how to create clawed feet, but i didn't do them before. i'm happy i could shape them this time.
41 by 41 cm square of red unryu/red tissue/foil, the model is roughly palm-sized

Red Hot Poker
Looking at my gear bag earlier, I realized how little attention I've given most of my camera gear. My backup camera body had been stowed away for almost a year now along with my 105mm f/2.8G Micro and 70-200mm f/2.8G Nikkor lenses -- I have been focusing too much on landscape photography, yet I've not been out to take decent landscape shots lately. So, I dusted them off and took them for a short exercise. What better subject there is than a bee, a poker playing bee!
Big thanks to J_Aubz, Glenspn, MD_MC, cwx0525, JayCaps and others for reminding me how macro shots are done.
