A hardy perennial which will grow in any soil, and bears division. It flowers in July. Height, 2 ft.

Le foglie sono... morbidamente pelose, un velluto! Il genere Stachys e tipico delle zone temperate, dove conta circa 200 specie diverse. Tutte hanno portamento eretto e infiorescenza a spirale (fiorellini rosa), e prediligono terreni calcarei, asciutti in posizione soleggiata. Tappezzante si puo definire la specie S. lanata (sin. S. olympica, S. byzantina), detta comunemente orecchia d'asino per le foglie ovali allungate, grigie e rivestite di una fitta peluria; molto vigorosa nello sviluppo, ricopre fittamente il terreno in modo che nessuna erbaccia riesca piu a spuntare. Il fiore e rosa pallido, alto fino a 50 cm. Un tappeto ancor piu fitto forma la varieta 'Silver Carpet' appositamente selezionata, la quale pero fiorisce a malapena.
