The other week in school one of the teachers said to me "I've got an old SLR that I'm never going to use again. Would you like it?"
Never being one to pass up the chance of a free camera (well, free anything really) I readily agreed, and today it arrived.
It's a very nice Praktica MTL3, which is the very model that I cut my teeth on fifteen years ago.
Along with it is a pile of stuff, including a 135mm lens, a starburst filter, a Metz Mecablitz flash, remote shutter cable and off shoe flash cable - and macro extension tubes!
It's clearly the kit of a very enthusiastic amateur who wasn't afraid to spend a few quid!
Most interesting of all to me was the bag it came in. Before Lowepro started flogging us neoprene lined rucksacks camera bags were a bit different. This is a sturdy leather(ette) bag with lots of buckles and double stitching. And it looks wonderful - perhaps a little anachronistic, but maybe that just gives it retro chic.
I'll have a proper play with it over Summer.
