This is the latest addition to our family. His name is Gaius (we named him after our favorite BSG character who is always getting himself into trouble - pronounced guy-us)) and he is a rescue kitten. He has an interesting story, too.

The person who owned his Mother, Pepsi, brought her in to the Vet to have her spayed even though she knew that Pepsi was pregnant. She wanted the babies inside of her discarded anyway. The vet began the procedure and when they opened Pepsi they found 5 little babies, very much alive and two weeks premature. The Vet did not have it in their hearts to "discard" the little ones, so they rescued them and fostered them out to a wonderful Foster Mom named Joan. Out of the 5 kittens 3 survived their premature birth and Gaius is one of them.

We went in to the Vet to visit with Gaius' sister, who the Vet calls Calipso. But when we arrived This little guy made a beeline for us, jumped in our laps and started playing and purring and loving us right from the start. It was love at first sight all the way around. He was the little guy meant for us.

This is Gaius' first Forever Home picture, we already love him to pieces. We went out straight away and bought him toys, treats, scratching post, a kitty carrier, a plushy soft sleeping mat and a mini kitty condo. As you can see from this picture, he looooves his black plushy mat.

Sorry the picture is so grainy. He has had a big day and I didn't want to shove a flash in his face, so I went with a hand held 1/20th of a second 1600 ISO shot of the sleepy baby.

Welcome to the Family Baby Gaius :)

The photo doesn't do justice to the downright evil look that is ALWAYS on her face. She was left at a PetSmart one day in a carrier with a note affixed "Please take care of my Baby, she's feisty and I can't care for her anymore." The frustrated PetSmart manager called Beth here at the Shelter to ask if she'd take her. She agreed. A few hours later I got a phone call, "Kerry I've got a vicious one." And soon Baby was at Rikki's.

Baby is what we call a Friendly Biter. A Psycho. A total wacko. These kind of cats - which seem to always be females (that's an observation not an accusation) - can be very nice and then, suddenly, without warning, lash out and attack. Cat House #3 is full of these. So stay out !!!!

Ginger has a very long fuse which earns her lots of victims. She can sometimes go for weeks without the taste of blood and she knows who to butter up and work on. She begs for pats and love, she chirps, she rolls over, she reaches out to touch you. And only after you've patted her on several occasions, sometimes over several weeks, and she's completely earned your confidence, she will flip and eat you alive, or portions there of.

Baby's fuse is short. When she's sound asleep the challenge is to see if you can stroke from the top of her head to center of her back before she has woken up and removed your arm. I don't know why cats like this seem to hold such a challenge for me and a few other crazy people I know. I guess some people do roller coasters and some people do bungee jumping and I see how long it will take to be bitten.
