Copper Sulfate Bleach
This was this weekends science experiment;
Id been looking for C41 Bleach for a while and could not find any. This is the recipe to make 1L:
100g of Copper Sulfate
100g of Kosher salt
Mix both in 750ml of hot water until completely dissolved
Top up to 1L
Let it sit over night until there is a deposit of white residue at the bottom and filter it through regular coffee filters.
Copper Sulfate can be found in hardware stores as a product that kills roots in your sewer pipes. It can be called Root Kill. It will say on the bottle that it contains Copper Sulfate. It comes in a plastic container as small blue crystals. I looked everywhere and could only find it at Home Hardware.
Kosher Salt can be found in grocery stores. You can try regular table salt but that is iodized and Kosher Salt is not.
The verdict: it works!
Update, The Copper Sulfate Root Killer can also be found at home depot in the plumming department.
Also, to ensure you dont get a weird blue color cast on your film, make sure to wash well after Bleaching. You can start the bleach in darkness and do the rest in the light with no problem.
