Michael Gross
American, born 1953 (Wisconsin)
Mont Horeb
Ceramic on wood
Label reads:
In this table, commissioned by the Wornicks in 1997, Gross reacts to Ron Wornick's life story, his love of wood, and his collecting. Taking artistic liberties, the artist humorously depicts "Mr. Whipple" as he immigrates to America from Russia (like Ron Wornick's father), raises a family, turns wood, and looks for his "cock's comb" - a reference to the David Groth piece (exhibited nearby) that began the Wornicks' collection.
