Four Poster Canopies
- a bed with posts at the four corners that can be used to support a canopy or curtains
- Archaeologists refer to two different structures as a four-poster . The first is a type of stone setting found uniquely within the British Isles. They date from the Bronze Age and, as the name suggests, usually consist of four stones.
- Any bed with four high posts positioned at each corner. Originally, the posts were designed to support elaborate fabric curtains and upholstered treatments which totally enclosed the bed.

"The bed is elaborately carved all over with strapwork and plant motifs. On the headboard is the royal coat of arms, suggesting that the original owner was an aristocrat with Court connections."
Strapwork is "flat partitioned motifs", a very popular form of decoration in Elizabethan England.
