Exterior Door Awning

Project Summary:
Because a love of nature seems to unite Castro Valley residents, I have chosen to work with trees as a theme for the entry to the library, bringing some simple, elegant curving lines to an otherwise rectilinear architecture.
My concept is a tracery of branches flowing from the doorway onto the left-hand side of the entry. A series of handmade tiles, pieced together, will form branch shapes three and a half inches wide, that will curve across the recessed entryway wall and onto the left side of the facade, framing the book drops, some reaching all the way to the awning. These tiles will be installed directly onto the wall surface prior to stucco application, and the stucco will fill in the gaps between branches. A similar tracery inset into the cement of the walkway will form root-like shapes flowing outward from the library doors.
The branches and roots will be stamped with lettering, inscribing various literary quotations on the wall and paving. I am collecting quotations relating to trees, branches, roots, leaves, and fruit: possible examples are included below. Suggestions from the community would be welcome in the process of quote selection, though considerations of spacing and balance will have to be accommodated as well. And don't worry-- I will proof-read!
