Door Detail
This is the detail from one of the many "iron shutters" in the town of Columbia. Iron shutters were used as fire protection - installed on buildings constructed of stone or brink, one could protect the contents of the building during a fire by shuttering down the building and waiting the fire out. The vast majority of the old brink and stone buildings in town have these large metal doors.
East Leake fire station
This is the fire station in East Leake, Nottinghamshire. It is what is known as a 'retained' station - i.e. the firemen are part-time and have other (main) jobs. The fire appliance based here, a Dennis Rapier water ladder, can be seen behind the roller shutter door.
