The Von Ritchie Wedding
There’s a story behind this.
The poor bride had been watching the weather frettingly for two weeks, wondering if she would be able to have her autumn countryside wedding after all. Rain was predicted in increasing amounts. The day of the wedding, when I met her at the location at noon, it was raining, it was cold, and it was Oklahoma windy. All of us womenkind fretted inside the house: Does it look lighter outside to you? I think it’s getting lighter. I swear the wind is slowing down. We checked the weather radar maps repeatedly from our phones, praying the yellow blobs would move away from our little dot fast enough. Within an hour of the time the ceremony was to begin, the rain miraculously did let up, and the worst of the wind had passed. The crew got busy drying everything off for the wedding.
The ceremony occurred under cloudy skies and we shot the couples photos that way, too. We were milling around waiting for the cake cutting when I suddenly felt warmth on my back… I turned and saw that finally, finally, the blessed sun had come out! I was standing underneath this arch draped in lights and wet fabric shimmering in the gold light now glowing through it, and I took this photo, and I smiled a big smile, because after all that worrying… it all turned out alright after all, as life is so apt to do.
