Outdoor Shade Cloth
A shade sail is a device to create outdoor shade based on the same technology as a ships' sail.
A woven material used to filter sunlight and protect plants.

Growing Area (5-2011 6)
My outdoor orchid growing area, May 2011. The roof over the space is covered with shade cloth and greenhouse polycarbonate. The sides are open, except for some protection by surrounding fences and vegetation. Temperature range is 38F-85F (never recorded a freeze in 20+ years growing here). As can be seen, I grow mostly Cattleya alliance species and hybrids. Other genera include Cymbidium, Lycaste, Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium, Phaius, Sobralia, Miltonia, Miltoniopsis, Laelia, and Epidendrum. Blooming plants are generally brought into the house for display, so there is not much color in these photos. There are way too many plants in such a small space! And more seedlings to pot up...so getting more crowded every year.
More Outdoor Seating ... Coming Soon
Wendy spent the better part of today reupholstering dumpster dived
couch cushions. She uses shade cloth on all of our outdoor cushions
which needs to be sewn by hand. These cushions had the extra corner on
them which she took off with a hacksaw.
