We were sitting. Just sitting. Watching old people walk by and young people pushing strollers. And even though it was cold out and i was freakishly pale, my face and neck was hot and red.
I knew you were probably the oldest city in my heart, with onemillion people walking down sidewalks daily. With athousand seaguls flocking Walmart parking lots and onehundred abandoned buildings on street corners with office buildings and love and affairs going on inbetween. You were probably the biggest city in my heart, too, building an empire in my right ventricle..spreading up to the pulmonary artery and aorta. Your city in my heart was booming, constantly moving, going bumbum bumbum as dance clubs opened and cars crashed.
I kind of looked at the papers in your hands. They were out of focus cause my eyes were a little bit in another place but i brought them back with effort and saw familiar handwriting. Just to know you kept them was enough. I smiled a bit and that made you smile and you asked why i was smiling.
We talked for hours. Just talked, as you built up your skyline and expressways in my veins. Expressways where cars drove fast and i felt the nerves and accelerators kick in.
Then you said a word that made me turn a sick opaque color. Maybe you just used the word to let me know you were strong enough to say it, but to know it didnt even phase you, to know that it only seemed to hurt me, that hurt. And even though you used the word in a subject where we werent even talking about the matter, it was just a general word for a general person that wasn't even a bad word or anything, but to hear you say it made me kind of clench my fist in a way where the expressways were blocked. The construction was stopped for a fragment of the smallest second in the universe.
But i caught myself. And you kept building your city, graffiting walls of old apartments, letting airplanes fly, setting up the tallest ferris wheel that touched the clouds in my lungs, that made me breathe easily.
