When Roberto Ravaglia won the 1989 Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, it marked the third time in as many years he claimed a major touring car championship. He won the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in 1987, European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) in 1988, and finally the DTM title in 1989. He won all of the formentioned touring car titles in a BMW E30 M3; the most successful touring car of all time.
