Vintage Barbie Dolls
Spotted these vintage Barbie dolls & case at the Roseville Antique Sale & Peddlers Faire over the weekend. The old couple that was selling the dolls saw me eying them and offered me the entire lot for $30 and I couldn't refuse. I come across vintage Barbie dolls all the time but the prices are always ridiculous and these just seemed to be begging for a new home. $30 seemed reasonable and I liked the idea of salvaging them. Here's what I got for my money:
1) Brunette Ponytail Barbie #4 (produced in 1960)
Problems: Green ears, various marks & nicks on body. Legs seem to be slightly discolored. Pin prick marks on chest. Face paint needs to be touched up. Missing original swimsuit but has her glasses. Came with an untagged white dress.
2) Blond Ponytail Barbie #5 (produced in 1961)
Has the shiny face that's common with this model type. Face paint needs to be touched up. Various small marks & nicks on body. Hair has been chopped off and a Fashion Queen wig (brunette pageboy) was glued to her head. Wearing an unmarked pink dress that came with a matching shawl & felt hat.
3) Original blond flocked hair Ken #1 (produced in 1961)
Problems: Flocked hair is missing and color has started coming off his head, which is a common problem with these dolls. Otherwise in pretty good shape. Wearing Mattel "Sport Shorts" shorts, socks & shoes with Pak Polo shirt.
4) Painted Hair Ken aka "Shortie Ken" (produced in 1963)
Problems: No major ones. Just minor staining on arms from outfit. Body is slightly lighter than head, which is a common problem with these dolls. I believe his outfit is original but there are no tags in the shirt or shorts.

If any Barbie experts have tips on how to restore these dolls, please feel free to share them!

Flower made from recycled t-shirt
hearts to be made into garland with vintage MOP buttons...head, arms and legs made from cotton velveteen, painted muslin body.
