Impatians tinctoria
Impatiens tinctoria is a species from the African rain forests with big, fragrant, orchid-like blooms. It grows to 8 feet tall, with thick stems and large leaves. The 4 to 5" wide flowers are possibly the largest of all Impatiens species. It is a surprisingly hardy plant in some areas in cultivation.
We call these flowers cowbell in Norwegian. Last year it didn't flower at all, but this year there's lots of flowers. Maybe it needed a cold winter to get going.
